Castiglione della Pescaia
An enchanting seaside village, with the historic part perched on a promontory around the castle and the modern area near the harbour, featuring elegant shops, many bars and restaurants.
Diaccia Botrona
Along the road to Castiglione della Pescaia lies the Diaccia Botrona, a lake nature reserve of great environmental interest, once used by the Romans as a harbour.
In summer it is open every day except Monday.
Vetulonia
The ancient Etruscan city of Vetulonia is part of the municipality of Castiglione della Pescaia. In summer it is open every day except Tuesday and Thursday; in winter it is closed on Tuesdays and Sundays.
Fattoria Le Mortelle
Still within the municipality of Castiglione della Pescaia, a visit to the Le Mortelle estate of the Antinori family is highly recommended, one of the most renowned and architecturally impressive wineries in Tuscany.
Guided tours, wine tastings and the purchase of local products are available.
Grosseto
About 8 km away lies the city of Grosseto, whose historic centre is enclosed by Medici walls. Worth visiting are Piazza Dante with its Renaissance Cathedral and 15th-century bell tower, the Cloister of San Francesco (home to a cross by Duccio di Buoninsegna) and the Archaeological Museum, featuring a small but interesting collection of Etruscan artefacts (closed on Wednesdays and Sunday afternoons).
In summer, an open-air cinema called “Under the Stars” takes place within the Medici walls.
Massa Marittima
About 47 km away, Massa Marittima is a beautifully preserved medieval town and a true gem. We recommend visiting the Cathedral of San Cerbone, overlooking a charming square surrounded by 13th-century buildings such as the Palazzo dell’Abbondanza and the Municipal Loggias.
Just a few kilometres from the town centre lies the Fattoria Moris, one of the best-known wineries in the Maremma, where you can taste wines such as Monte Regio, Morellino and the famous Avvoltore.
Argentario
The Argentario peninsula includes Orbetello and is separated by a lagoon from Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano, from where boat excursions depart to the surrounding bays and the islands of Giglio and Giannutri.
In Ansedonia you can visit the archaeological area and the National Museum of Cosa (closed on Sundays).
Nature Parks
The Parco Naturale della Maremma, in the Alberese area, offers numerous walking trails; in Alberese you can also visit the Villa Granducale, once owned by the Grand Duke of Tuscany.
About 24 km towards Rome lies the renowned Uccellina Natural Park, with its entrance in Alberese, where fascinating walking routes are available (guided visits required in summer).

Towards Siena
Along the road to Siena stands the Cistercian Abbey of San Galgano, an architectural masterpiece where concerts are also held during the summer. Nearby is the Chapel of Montesiepi, home to the legendary sword in the stone.
Continuing towards Siena, near Paganico, you can visit the Abbey of Sant’Antimo, a Romanesque masterpiece and active monastery where unforgettable Gregorian chants can be heard.
Maremma Hinterland
In the hinterland you can visit Magliano in Toscana and Pereta, charming medieval villages with excellent restaurants.
A little further away (about 80 km) are Sovana, an intact medieval village built over ancient Etruscan tombs, Pitigliano, dramatically perched on tuff rock, and Saturnia, famous for its natural thermal baths and ancient Etruscan and Roman origins.
